The situation
Capacity planning and the roadmap lived in Excel files. They took time to update, drifted from what was actually in Jira, and were hard to trust in planning meetings.
What I did
- Modelled capacity and scenarios in Jira Plans (Advanced Roadmaps).
- Started with one stream to prove the approach, then extended it.
- Built Custom Charts reports for the views leadership needed.
- Documented the process so planners could run it themselves.
The result
Capacity and roadmap are now read from live Jira data instead of a spreadsheet. [Add a result: time saved per planning cycle, who uses it.]
